Meet Elias Sahab, a Palestinian man born in 1937. His mother gave birth to him in Lebanon before returning with him to Yafa. His razor-sharp memory transports us back to his childhood in Yafa and the life he knew there. He describes his house, his neighborhood, and his fondest memories to us and paints a picture of a time before occupation. He was 11 years old when the Nakba occurred. Like most Palestinian refugees, he fled with his parents carrying only a handful of belongings and the keys to the house, thinking they would return in a couple of weeks. It has now been 76 years. The home they knew was stolen by Israel and has deteriorated due to neglect and lack of maintenance. They now reside in Lebanon and he has been dreaming of his return every day since then. Listen to Elias’ story.
